News and More News!

We received the call Friday, and it was overnighted to us but wouldn't arrive until today so we drove 2 hours to the FedEx hub and signed and returned it Saturday!
We are 2.5 to 3 months from holding Kohlby!!!
There's a lot of Christmas celebration, wedding planning, sweet corn prep and basketball between now and then :)

This Time is Different

We are smack in the middle of the journey to bring home our 9th treasure from China. 

Although the process has changed since we first adopted 10 years ago, the thing that’s changed the most is ME!

I’m a take-charge kind of gal.  Give me a task and I’m on it.  Give me stacks of paper work, no sweat.  Ask me to sit quietly and wait patiently…fail.  But that is changing, ever so slowly.


I have orchestrated fundraisers, tried to make crafty things (in my severe un-crafty-ness) , held garage sales and whittled our budget to the bone in order to raise adoption funds.  Usually the entire journey is one fundraiser after another, frantic that we will fall short of our goal.

We’re still raising funds and working overtime to cover the expense of the adoption, but this time is different. 

Over the past year the Lord has dealt with my heart in so many ways.  First, that He would allow us to adopt again is incredible.  But I am recognizing His sovereignty.  And I’m learning to abide.

Abiding doesn’t mean I’m sitting on my hands.  But I am seeking Him, soaking in His truth, and instead of plowing my way through things, I’m content to follow Him.  I’m learning that as I fix my gaze upon Him, I am less likely to become distracted. 

The adoption process has many milestones, each culminating hopefully in the homecoming of a child.  In the past I’ve gotten so wrapped up in the destination that I couldn’t enjoy the journey.  And the Lord has so much to teach me in the journey.


This time I want Him more than I want the things I ask of Him.

The next step, LOA, could come in 30 days or 90 days or 150 days...

Consulate Appointment!!!

Today I have spent the entire day looking at flight itineraries...and we are booked!

We are flying out on March 7 and returning March 21, but the really good news is that we meet Khloie Nicole on March 10th!!!!
*more later ~ I need to pay attention to my neglected family :)*

Oh, One More Thing...

We have an unofficial travel update!  
And an extension to the Wild Olive Tees fundraiser!



First things first ~ Khloie!
Due to Lifeline staff taking a medical missions trip to China the first week of March, it is in the best interest of our travel group to wait till the second week.
Yes, I want to hold Khloie on March 4th!  And yes, I have faith that God will provide all we need, no matter when we travel!
But...since we will probably not know our confirmed consulate appointment until next Tuesday, (which means booking tickets 10 days before flights, which means higher prices)...we are okay with waiting one more week, having our Gotcha Day on March 11th!

TA, Baby!!!!

I knew it.
I just knew it!
I started nesting on Wednesday.
On Thursday I was feeling almost human again.
On Friday I spent the day hitting 'refresh' on my computer, waiting for an email from our agency.
At 5 pm I gave up and headed to Kenzie's basketball game.
CC*WA is closed for the next week to celebrate Ch*nese New Year so I'd resolved that we would not hear anything now.
And then, 20 minutes from the game I got the message:
"I've got your


Oh my goodness!!!
Since the consulate is closed on the Ch*na side until Thursday, we won't have a confirmed consulate appointment until at least then.  It may even be as late as Tuesday the 19th when we hear.

But here's what we know: we will likely need to be in Khloie's province on or before March 1!!!!  Our consulate appointment will likely be the week of March 12, which puts us back home in time for spring break ~ some down time for Khloie to settle in with all her siblings.

We also know that we serve a big God!  We were amazed when we received our LOA in only 22 days.  And we were astonished when we received our TA in only 5 days.  It's likely we are leaving in only 20 days.  Which means God is going to provide the additional $14,000 we need IN THE NEXT 20 DAYS!!!!!!!  He has orchestrated Khloie's homecoming in a time line we couldn't have imagined!

My heart is full!!!

We are C.A.B.L.E.D.!!!

We got the best news from NVC (National Visa Center) tonight that our visa petition for Khloie has been cabled to Guangzhou!!!
*pinch me, please*
Our sweet Treasure is coming home soon!
What this means is:
*In approximately two weeks our China liaison will pick up our Article 5 at the US Consulate in GZ
*Next she will send it to CCCWA
*They will issue our TA (travel approval) in 3 to 4 weeks.  
*We will then be given a consulate appointment
*And finally, we will book flights to China

8 Weeks!?!

At this point it's totally realistic that we will travel in...
!!!!!!
Even early March is a possibility.

I'd like to say I'm completely nonchalant about this and not one bit concerned.
Don't get me wrong ~ I'm so excited I can't stand it, and I'm having those pre-Gotcha Day dreams and not sleeping well, not focusing.  Can't say that I've started nesting yet...
But yesterday it struck me that we have a lot to do before Khloie comes home!

At the top of the fun list is rearranging and painting the little girls' room.
But when?

At the top of the not.so.fun list is raising funds.
We still need to raise a lot of $.
I know God can do this!
When I begin to waver is when I think I'm in control.  (whew, so glad I'm not!)
He's done it before, and He'll do it again!

We've started planning our first Both Hands project, and I'm super excited about it!  This week we need to set a date (within the next 6 weeks!) and an alternate inclement weather date.  Next week we need to build our team.  The week after that we need to have the envelope stuffing party to mail out the support letters.  And then the project, which consists of exterior painting trim, eves and gables; replace guttering; rejuvenating flower beds and installing chain link fence.  It's gonna be awesome!

We need to order Visas, like today.  We've given our older kids the chance to travel with us if they want to, since it really is a once-in-a-lifetime trip.  Kenzie was the only one considering going, and today she made the hard decision that she can't go due to sports and school.  I know it was a really hard decision for her, especially since she traveled with me in 2011 and knows what an amazing journey it is.  But it is the responsible choice, and I'm so proud of her.

We need to find someone to keep our Krew.  Or several someones to split up the Krew.

Did I mention fundraising?  Yes, we need to do that.

We need to schedule doctor's appointments for Khloie, at least with our pediatrician who will then refer us to a cardiologist and neurologist.

We (who am I kidding?!?) I need to plan and prepare a boatload of meals for when we return because I just have a hunch we'll be slightly tired.  And Mr. Greenthumb will start planting corn s.o.o.n after we return.

Then there's packing...ah, never mind.

I think I'll just start with Visas and the paint project...after work today.  Or tomorrow...or...maybe I'll just send Khloie another care package in hopes of getting more pictures.

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."

One Step Closer!!!

We received the sweet news today that we have 800 provisional approval for Khloie!
Simply stated, it's the last approval needed this side of China!


Now our approval is sent to the National Visa Center, then it's emailed to the US Consulate in Guangzhou where something called an Article 5 is produced.  Two weeks after that, Rebecca picks up the Article 5 and sends it to the CCCWA who will then issue our Travel Approval.  Once TA is issued, Lifeline requests a Consulate Appointment, and once that is confirmed ... we book flights to China!

Oh my...I think it's sinking it!!!

Seriously, Letter of Acceptance has come anywhere from 26 to 100+ days from LID...

Flying to GZ!

It goes in... and it came back out!

Sweet slumber. This little beauty still cries when I lay her down for her nap. I end up putting her in the Ergo and trekking down the hall a few times. Works every time. Mama is a sucker! Last night she cried when I put her to bed, and I couldn't stand it so I just started praying. Within seconds she just stopped and nodded off!
Little Miss sings herself to sleep. They aren't cold! Our room is like 89 degrees.

Please pray for our flight to Guangzhou today. It will be the first flight for the girls! We aren't looking forward to packing, flying and relocating...but we are looking forward to GZ! One week from now we will be flying home!!!!!

The Rest of the Story ~ Sorta

First, thank you all for your precious comments. You've made me cry all over again!

Yesterday was indescribable. Utterly speechless. Honey, it isn't the same without you hear. Sheri and Kenz are doing an amazing job! But you should be here to see your girls blossom. I know you would be if you could. I love you, and in your absence I realize the amazing daddy you are to all our children.

Yesterday was the culmination of God's unimaginable goodness coming together, throughout the day really! As you know, our luggage arrived about 2 hours before the babies so we had time to arrange everything, and I don't know what we would've done without the awesome Minnie Mouse backpack with never-ending goodies :) The journal below is as much for me, as you, so please humor me. I know without memorializing the day there will be precious bits I would forget. And don't fret, there are more pictures...like over 200 more ;-)

At 2:00, loaded down with a ginormous diaper bag, complete with sippy cup of juice (properly watered down of course), a steaming hot bottle of formula with rice cereal, an Ergo, 2 blankets, necessary docs, camera which ultimately met its demise when someone knocked it off the table, and a pint-size backpack, we headed to the civil affairs office.

There were 7 other families from France, so the room was crowded, but we immediately recognized a petite pink-adorned Kennah Janae! It appears she has been truly loved. She hesitated to let me hold her, and when I finally did, her nanny would take her back every time she squirmed and whimpered :)

To our surprise, it also appears her palate has been repaired. She appears severely malnourished, and I've suspected that was due to her cleft palate, but she is the thinnest little beauty I've ever seen. We are so careful with her tiny arms and legs, for fear we might dislocate something. I'm happy to say, the girls loves her some vittles! She ate noodles, meatballs and eggs like there was no tomorrow! And she's potty trained! So she and I had to race out of the dumpling restaurant and back to the room for her to tinkle, but it's ok. She's good about telling me. She uses lots of gestures because her speech isn't clear. We are so blessed to already be established with the cleft clinic, and our surgeon is awesome!

Kennah will be seen soon because she seems to have some breathing issues, likely related to her cleft. During the night she snorted a lot, especially when she whimpered. It's now 5:30 am and both girls are still asleep, but Kennah has whimpered several times, allowing me to comfort her and remind her, "Mama is here." Oh, be still my heart!

And her laugh ~ oh my! At first she would try to hold her smile, then she couldn't help herself and busted out in all-out belly laughs! I'm sure we have video somewhere in the plethora of photos. She's a hoot! And has an ornery streak a mile long! She does mind me though! She will readily hold my hand when we walk, and allow me to pick her up if I need to have eye contact. During Gotcha when I was holding both girls and Kasidi was crying, Kennah would share her Cheerios, and stroke Kasidi's cheek and hair. Oh my!!!! She also loves to brush her own hair. She's a princess!

About 15 minutes after meeting Kennah and while we were unloading her backpack, our guide said, "Oh, another one!!!!" I turned around, and there was my Kasidi Joy, dressed in the most dainty outfit ever! I will take a picture of it today. She was not pleased to be handed off to her mama, but she eventually settled in. She has the most beautiful and dainty features, and a cry to match.

Both girls could easily fall in love with their sister Kenzie, and we are all being careful about that. I'm feeding them and meeting their needs, putting them to bed, etc. But especially at mealtime, I need 4 hands! Sheri and Kenzie are just incredible! They step in when needed. Thank you both!!!

Kasidi has spent the last 8 months with a family who obviously love her very much! Her foster mama brought her to the orphanage yesterday morning because she didn't want to lose any more time with her than she had to. Precious baby girl is going to grieve the loss of her family. We have a special gift for her family, and I hope they will see our heart in it.

Kasidi also eats food, along with her bottles. She loves eggs and noodles, as well as applesauce. We plan to snag some yogurt and faux Cheerios off the breakfast buffet today.

After the pictures were taken, we went to Careforre (never can remember how to spell that) to get some formula and other necessary supplies. Kennah was in awe, taking in all the sights. Kasidi was content to be snug in the Ergo.

As soon as we arrived back at the hotel, I realized I'd forgotten to get the boatload of diapers and wipes I wanted to donate to both orphanages, so we took a walk to the local market and picked those up. The girls did amazing!

I gave each girl a bath separately, not knowing how they'd like it. Also, the 4 arms thing... My word, they love the water!!! Bath time will be treasured moments for us.

I tried to give Kasidi her bedtime bottle, but she wasn't interested. We snuggled a bit, and I put her in the crib, and she was out within minutes. Tired baby girl.

Kennah, on the other hand, insisted on playing in the crib a while. She even tried to convince me to pick her up - funny how she liked me to hold her then more than before :) I'm onto her. If we don't want her to have something, we'll have to get it out of sight! She's persistent, even stubborn. It was so cute to listen to her playing with the stacking cups and talking to herself. As soon as I turned the lights out and went to bed, she settled in and fell asleep too.

So today is a new day. It can't top yesterday, but it will bring its own cherished memories. We complete the adoption paperwork today and get to know each other more.

I am overwhelmed at God's goodness. I simply don't deserve such blessings. I am so grateful that He spoke His plans to our hearts yet again. I already can't imagine my life without these two Treasures.

Wheels Up ~ Knees Down!

It's official! We head east in the wee hours of the morning, Friday, May 20th!
My goodness, we are excited! Just the thought of all that God has done in the last 9 months leaves me in awe. Miraculous, no doubt! We are standing in prayer that He will continue to show up and show off as we prepare for travel.

A huge praise is that the match has been met - praise Him!!! But we still need $6,247. Will you stand in the gap for us?
He is never late!!!!

Eatin' Dust

Gotta admit, I'm kinda bummed, and on the other hand super excited. An online friend I thought we'd travel with posted that they have TA and CA (K, I'm thrilled for you!!!!). I so hoped we could travel together and finally meet in person. But we haven't received the same good news from Lifeline, so it looks like we've been left behind.
But I'm not gonna cry...
...wonder why...
...or pout... (even though I'm pretty good at all those things)!
Nope, I'm not gonna! Because my friend K is leaving in 2 weeks!

And we just couldn't do that.

Not because we don't want to. My sister-in-law has agreed to go with me, and my niece graduates high school in 2 weeks; then Kenzie graduates 8th grade 5 days later! I've promised all of us I would wait till after those milestones to travel (even though in the past I've been known to drop everything and board a plane ;-)

So, I'm just gonna rejoice! Rejoice for those leaving in 2 weeks and rejoice that I don't have to decide whether we're leaving in 2 weeks ... because we don't have TA or CA yet!

Besides that, we are still raising funds for travel.

Sometimes it's just best that I don't have a choice. Thank You, Lord, for your perfect timing!!!!
