Baby Joy has had her AFOs for almost two weeks!
She doesn't really want to walk :(
I don't know if it's that the shoes are 3 sizes too big, she's just not used to the appliances or what...but she does not want to walk.
Last week I noticed that when she does walk, her feet turn in, especially her left.
I didn't think much of it cuz I'm just ignorant like that.
But her therapist noticed it right away today!
We tried putting the shoes on the opposite feet and even taking off the left AFO...but there is a problem.
She told us to take the braces off asap and call the orthotist.
I see another trip to St. Louis on the horizon. We are praying this is a 'simple fix.'
Yes. Praying for a "simple fix" for sweet Kasidi.
ReplyDeleteThe differences walking with and without braces can be so hard to adjust to - when little ones as young as Kasidi get braces, it can be frustrating because they can't articulate what feels weird and what needs to be changed as well as older children can. Whenever I get new braces, it takes a lot of fine-tuning and work/communication between me, my doctor, my therapist, and my orthotist before I'm comfortable with the way I'm walking and I feel steady, and everyone else agrees and they're happy that my braces are helping improve my quality of life and preventing future problems. I pray that this will be something simple and straightforward for Kasidi, but even if it does take a little bit of adjustment to get things just right, it will be worth it in the end to ensure Kasidi is walking in alignment, with the best form, support, and endurance possible so that she can walk as much as possible for the rest of her life! Has Kasidi walked in her braces at all and did the orthotist and physician see Kasidi walk in them yet, or just the therapist? The physician who ordered the braces should have the best insight on how to fix any issues with the braces themselves, and it could also just have a lot to do with your Joy's reluctance to this new way of walking - braces will make things easier in the long run, but she essentially needs to re-learn her walking technique and I know it can be very frustrating and it could take some time. But praise God that as always, she is SMILING! Praying that Kasidi is up and going again very, very soon!
