It's Your Fault

There is someone very dear to me who seeks someone to 'blame' for us adopting. I mean every.time.we.adopt. It's not necessarily about the children or where they are from, as it is a lack of understanding.

Why would we choose to put ourselves through that? Why would we want more children? Why would we make life more challenging than it already is?
Who would make us do such a thing? Is China calling us? (Ya'll know how funny that is?!?) Is our church a cult? Have we been brainwashed? And on and on and on...

Oh, it's got me to thinkin'.

Jesus, it's my fault ~
that you had to die on the cross!
that the human race needs salvation!
that crime exists.
that there are over 147 million children orphaned.
that we desire comfort more than radical change.

No amount of 'good' I do will change the fact I am a sinner in need of salvation. No amount of knowledge I have of you necessarily means I have a relationship with You. But because You first loved me, I am able to love. And I will follow You.

So, it's Your fault!
(and I love You for that!!!)

  2. Love it!!!! There are some who think that Rich and I are crazy for still wanting to adopt "after all we have been through". YES!!! Our hearts are still broken for the orphans and they can't blame our "cult" church 'cause we just now belong to a church, lol

  3. I can relate! We kept our current adoption secret until a few weeks ago for this very reason. My friend recently emailed me with her disapproval and attempt to change our minds. Whatever. :-)

  4. Beautifully written! I had a conversation this last weekend where the end result was, "well if that's how you want to spend your money". Hello, it's not my money.

  5. Amen! I even had someone tell me when I told them that we were adopting three at once because we felt that was what God called us to do say to me "If Jesus wants you to adopt why didn't he adopt himself?" Seriously I don't understand why others care and actually make it out like a selfish decision! I am happy to serve God and our life has only been blessed since! Love this post!

  6. My grandmother once told me "most of the time people will criticize you for your choices so that they can feel better about their own".
Seems to be the case here.
    Oh wait... i was brainwashing you...Sorry. :)

  8. Agreed. Sometimes I think they are jealous or unsure of how to follow God's lead in their own lives. Because when you are where you are supposed to be, it doesn't really matter what other people are doing because we are all part of God's plan.

  10. Yeah..... I want to be the one the foot of the cross casting crowns at his feet...not trying to explain why I didn't "relly believe what i believed was really real".

Amen. So glad God called you to this crazy life that YES!!!! Is absolutely not your own. You are a FOREIGNER here...you have but a breath to make an impact for the Kingdom.

    You go, girl.

  12. It's not just about adoption either ... we are not supported when we add another bio. baby to our family, either.

Just today I got a very sad response ... from dear friends of 30 years ... that for some reason just cannot rejoice with us that we are having another baby.

    So sad.
